A window into the work of the long-range vision design teams

I’m delighted to announce the launch of a new video series that captures the work of some of the long-range vision design teams.

As you may know, more than 300 Stanford community members from across the campus are serving on design and discovery teams working on initiatives in five key areas: mission and values, supporting the foundation, research, education, and community. Most teams are currently in the process of developing their recommendations for how Stanford will accomplish its long-range vision.

Here, in the first of five videos, we focus on IDEAL — Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access in a Learning Environment — which is one of three presidential initiatives in the area of mission and values. This set of initiatives is designed to help advance our mission and put our values into action on our campus, in our local community, and in the world.

I am honored to lead the IDEAL team: a group of passionate, committed individuals from across the university. Our goal is threefold: to make sure that diversity of thought, experience, approach, and identity is represented in all aspects of our education and research mission; to ensure that all members of the campus community feel they belong and are supported; and to provide equality of access within our community to the opportunities and benefits of Stanford.

For the past few months the team has been hard at work cataloging and evaluating the many efforts already in place that reflect the goals of IDEAL, gathering data on the composition of various Stanford populations, and developing models for scaling our most successful programs and initiatives. In addition, we are working on ways to be transparent about how well we are meeting our expectations to ensure diversity in our community.

In this video, team members talk about their work on IDEAL, their aspirations for the future of Stanford, and how — through initiatives such as IDEAL — the university can have a positive impact on the world.

The second video in the series, focusing on the education initiatives, will be released next month.

Please enjoy and share the video!
