Stanford statement on campus climate and immigration

The university has heard increased reports in recent days of people from a variety of backgrounds and across the political spectrum feeling targeted or silenced on our campus. Intolerance of others based on their background, identity or views is antithetical to our values.

As the president and provost wrote last week, this is a time to reaffirm our commitment to free expression, diversity and inclusion. The important issues facing our country will benefit from thoughtful discourse of the kind our university community can model.

Persis Drell named Stanford provost

An accomplished academic leader and longtime member of the Stanford community, Drell will become the university’s chief academic officer and chief budgetary officer. She will assume the role Feb. 1.

Persis Drell, dean of the Stanford School of Engineering and previously director of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, will be the next provost of Stanford University, President Marc Tessier-Lavigne announced today.

Diversity in engineering

A new video produced by the School of Engineering, "The Strength of Stanford Engineering is in the Diversity of our Students," highlights the school's diverse PhD students and commitment to diversity.

Engineering PhD students, senior leadership, faculty, and staff discuss the resources supporting graduate students, diversity and community.

New senior role to lead equity and access initiatives at Stanford

The new role of senior associate vice provost for institutional equity and access will be filled by Lauren Schoenthaler.

Following a national search, the role of senior associate vice provost for institutional equity and access will be filled by Lauren Schoenthaler, a member of the Stanford community since 2001. She will be responsible for oversight, implementation and coordination of programs and offices that ensure equity and access across the Stanford community, including Title IX and sexual violence prevention programs.
