Deportability and Daily Life: Latino Immigrants Managing Law, Life, and Punishment

October 13, 2020 - 4:00pm to 5:00pm

Asad L. Asad is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Stanford University, where he is a faculty affiliate of the Center for Comparative Studies of Race and Ethnicity. In this talk, he will offer an overview of his research to date on how the threat of deportation manifests among Latinos—both immigrants and non-immigrants—in the United States. The conversation will emphasize and explain national trends in Latinos’ deportation fears since 2007, as well as consider the limits of these fears for impeding Latinos’ daily lives and ordinary routines.
